The Pakistani film industry has to set new standards to cope up with the world cinema
Pakistani cinema is obsessed with copying Indian cinema since Indian films do well in Pakistan. Pakistan film industry in the '80s and '90s fashioned its own style, the impact of the Punjabi film industry was dynamic, they were action-orientated like Tamil industry of India - unlike comedies that are more likely to produce by the Punjabi film industry of India.
Urdu movies- produced before the turn of the century were the masterpiece. The actors were only reserved for movies, they were the face of films in Pakistan, it was high time for art in Pakistan.
Both the drama and film industry of Pakistan went to slump around the turn of the century. However, the drama industry was revived by big hits that surfaced twice or thrice a year. But the film industry was orphaned of capital, art, artists, and interest from people.
Recently, the resurrection of the film industry can be seen in this decade. Now the film industry is not idle, every year some movies are being made and released on The Holidays so a steady stream of return can be generated.
Upcoming movies have the dilemma of copied style by Bollywood. Standards are set to xerox Bollywood, The concept of Masalaa Film- Item number songs, can be seen in Pakistan film industry. Moreover, the actors on the big screen are not fresh, no doubt actors performing are incredible and their work is appreciated in the whole region, but still, fresh faces are required for the film industry.
The standards set by our industry are poor, they are competing Bollywood. we don't understand that Hollywood is not just an industry but a standard that the world follows not Bollywood. we need to study Korean, French, Turkish industry so there must be a flavor in the standard, just like our drama industry.
The patriotic dose- Movies made with the subject of nationalistic ethos are not doing well, not because Pakistan is not patriotic but because of the patriotic dose given in a film. India also makes patriotic movies and are big hits because they don't force patriotism down the throat, they do it so genuinely the film makes you feel patriotic.
The subjects around which movies are made are so streamlined it doesn't rip off the sentiments of the audience to watch a movie. we need movies on real-life idols such as Edhi, Malala, Dr.Abdus Salam, and Junaid Jamshed their lifestyle and backstories would launch a new genre in the Pakistan film industry. People believe that these are too rough for the audience to watch, its a myth, the blockbuster movies of the Hollywood are around the subject of their idolized heroes.
The revival of the Film industry is here if done right it will be standard for even Bollywood. as Pakistan drama industry has affected the Indian drama industry.
